We are experienced in using fingerprint scanners for applications such as clocking in and clocking out of the workplace, or allowing access only to certain parts of your invoicing software.

Why is this better than the good old password? Several reasons spring to mind and here they are, not in any particular order:

  • You will never forget your fingerprint.
  • No-one else will be able to log into your account or sign you out without you knowing about it.
  • Sooner or later, all employees will get to know at least one other employee's password.
  • When an employee leaves the company you don't have to remember to delete their user name (and password).
  • Fingerprints are different (to an almost infinite degree), even for your identical twin. But when details of your 25th/30th/40th/50th birthday circulate around the office, the chances of someone working out your password becomes an almost certainty, especially if you get a birthday card from your partner or your pet and display it on your desk. This does not happen with fingerprints.
  • The internet story of someone easily obtaining a print of a finger after someone scanned it failed to mention the difficulty the hackers had in replicating it - they needed a really expensive digital camera, tracing paper, a printed circuit board, UV light, spray-on graphite coating and wood glue, and that was for just one fingerprint. If this worries you, simply wipe or smear the scanner with your sleeve or finger after scanning.
  • Computers do not store your fingerprint, so no-one will be able to download it and use it.
  • Fingerprints are converted to and stored as a mass of about 2,000 alphabetical characters and numbers. No-one will remember that lot. And you cannot reverse engineer your fingerprint from the text.
  • For added security, users could scan more than one finger in order to further reduce the infinitesimally low chance of duplication or hacking to as near zero as is possible to get.
  • Or, use a combination of fingerprint(s) and a passcode.

Either way, we will help you set up your system as securely as possible.
